Power Management

The different I LOCK IT lock models use tailored power management strategies to optimize battery life depending on usage and connectivity features.

πŸ”‹ Bluetooth-Only Locks (C2-03-S3, DAD)

These models are equipped with either a 1.000β€―mAh (C2-03-S3) or 1.200β€―mAh (DAD) battery and are optimized for energy efficiency.

Power Consumption Factors

  1. BLE Advertisement Mode
Default idle mode when no Bluetooth connection is active. Very low power consumption.
    β†’ Battery runtime: ~8–12 months

  2. BLE Connected Mode
Active when a Bluetooth device is connected.
    β†’ Battery runtime: ~6–9 months

  3. Locking/Unlocking
The motor consumes notable energy during locking/unlocking operations. Frequent use reduces battery life.

  4. Alarm System
Constantly monitors motion and triggers an acoustic alarm if tampering is detected.
β†’ Reduces battery life by approx. 5%

tip

To improve battery life, disable the alarm system if it is not required.

πŸ“‘ Standard Tracking Locks (C2-04-S1, DBD, DED)

Additional to Bluetooth functionality these models include tracking and cellular features, using a 1.000β€―mAh or 1.200β€―mAh battery.

Additional Power Consumers

  1. Alarm Tracking Mode
When an alarm is triggered, the lock activates GPS and cellular connectivity to report the location.
β†’ Consumes significant energy, deactivates again automatically after 15 minutes without motion.
tip

Frequent false alarms? Adjust the alarm sensitivity and enable the pre-alarm to save energy.

  1. Enhanced Security Mode
Periodically activates the cellular connection every 24β€―h to send a status message including battery and lock state.
info

Cellular connectivity depends on reception. Poor signal increases power usage.
When the battery drops below 40%, connectivity may fail unless the signal is strong.

⚑ Premium Tracking Locks (C2-04-S2, DBF, DEF)

These models are optimized for hybrid operation – ideal when connected to an e-bike power source, but also capable of standalone operation.

tip

Please check our documentation here on how to connect the lock to different e-bike models.

Intelligent Power Modes

  1. Track-All Mode
    Enabled when:

    • Lock is charging (e.g. via USB-C or e-bike) or
    • Internal battery > 70% (configurable)

    Features:

    • REST API accessible
    • GPS location every 30β€―s while riding (unlocked)
    • Location every 10β€―s during alarm
    • Status update every 30β€―min
info

The battery level of the lock is updated every 30 minutes.

The battery level is not updated while the lock is charging – the server shows the last known value.

  1. Low Power Mode
    Automatically enabled when:

    • Lock is not charging and
    • Battery drops below the configured threshold (70% standard setting)

    Features:

    • Behaves like a standard tracking lock
    • Sends one status package every 24β€―h
    • GPS/cellular triggered only on alarm
info

In low power mode, the lock cannot be controlled via the REST API.
