Introduction

This document describes the Bluetooth protocol used by the sharing version of the I LOCK IT smart bike lock as well as the behavior of the lock in different situations.

I LOCK IT uses the Bluetooth Low Energy technology to connect to Smartphones or other Bluetooth Low Energy enabled devices. This technology can be used with iOS devices starting with the iPhone 4s and Android devices starting with the Android version 5.

I LOCK IT is working in peripheral mode which means that it constantly sends advertising signal in short intervals. The Smartphone or other Bluetooth enabled device needs to act as a central device according to the Bluetooth Low Energy specifications which can be found here: https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/bluetooth-core-specification

To establish a connection to the lock this means that the other Bluetooth device has to scan for devices and then initiate the connection process.
