E-Bike Power Connection

The GPS Premium models (C2-04-S2, DBF, DEF) are designed to be permanently powered by the e-bike. A powered lock stays in constant tracking mode (Track-All), remains controllable via the REST API at all times, and never needs a manual charging round — see Battery Management.

All other models are charged exclusively via the USB-C port and cannot be wired to the bike. Check your model in the Lock Model Overview.

External Power Variants​

Two kinds of external power variants exist — check your exact model code in the Lock Model Overview:

  • 5 V variants (e.g. C2-03-S3a, C2-04-S2a): powered from an external 5 V source (e.g. USB). For e-bikes with higher battery voltages a separate voltage converter is required.
  • 5 V & 45 V variants (e.g. C2-04-S2b, DBF, DEF, DEK): directly support the higher voltages of modern e-bike batteries. No separate converter needed. Connected via the supplied 5-pin connection cable (Julet connector on one side, open end on the other).

Electrical Requirements​

  • If the supplied voltage is too low, charging will not start.
  • If the voltage is too high, the lock can be permanently damaged and charging is no longer possible.
  • Many drive units only provide switched power on the lighting circuit — the lock is then only charged while the bike (light) is switched on.

Compatible Drive Units​

Which connector and cable you need depends on the e-bike drive unit (Bosch, Shimano, Bafang, …). We maintain a compatibility table with power supply versions, cable part numbers, and sample images in the developer documentation:

Because of the many different drive units on the market we cannot document every model. If your drive unit is not listed, contact your bike dealer or the drive train manufacturer for information on connecting accessories.

Installation Notes​

  1. Route the lock's power cable along the frame to the drive unit or lighting output, avoiding moving parts (wheel, brake, suspension).
  2. Connect the cable to the drive unit output according to the manufacturer's wiring instructions.
  3. Verify the connection: with external power applied, the lock's red charging LED lights up briefly and turns off after a few seconds — this is normal for externally powered models and does not indicate a charging failure.
  4. Confirm in the tracking portal that the lock reports as online while powered.
