Storage & Decommissioning

Guidance for taking bikes out of service temporarily (winter break, warehouse storage) or permanently.

Preparing Locks for Long-Term Storage

  1. Charge the battery before storage. A lock that goes into deep discharge freezes in its last physical state and falls off the tracking grid — see Power Management & Charging Issues.
  2. Store the lock in the unlocked state. If a deeply discharged lock freezes in the locked state, the bike cannot be used until the lock is recharged.
  3. Disable the alarm function via the Service App to avoid pointless alarms (and battery drain on GPS models) while bikes are moved around the warehouse. See Alarm & Theft Tracking.
  4. Store within the permitted temperature range (operating range −20 °C to +40 °C; charge only between 0 °C and +30 °C).

:::note GPS Locks in Storage Locks stored in basements or metal racks lose cellular reception and will show as Unknown/Offline in the portal — this is expected. See Portal & Cellular Network States. :::

Recommissioning After Storage

  1. Fully recharge the lock (0 °C to +30 °C).
  2. Reconnect with the Service App, check the firmware version, and re-enable the alarm.
  3. For GPS models: place the bike under open sky and verify in the tracking portal that the lock comes back online and reports a position.

Permanent Decommissioning

When a lock is retired, sold, or returned:

  1. Export any data you still need — events and positions are only stored for 30 days in the portal.
  2. Remove the lock from the bike and disconnect any e-bike power wiring.
  3. Contact support@ishareit.bike to unlink the lock from your portal account or transfer it to a new owner.

:::warning Battery Disposal The lock contains an integrated lithium-ion battery. Do not dispose of it in household waste — return it to an electronics recycling point in accordance with local regulations (WEEE). :::
